Nettle- Stinging (Urtica dioica) (plant)

$5.00

Stinging nettle is a very nutritious green and can also be dried for a healthful tea!  It contains vitamins A, C and K, and several B vitamins along with calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium.

It is part of the mint family, a perennial, and will spread in your garden.  Both the stems and the leaves of stinging nettles are covered by structures that look like hairs but are delicate and hollow. These “hairs” act like needles when they come into contact with the skin. Chemicals flow through them into the skin, which causes a stinging sensation and a rash. Be sure to wear gloves when planting and harvesting the plant.
